Thank you Vermont National Education Association and President Don Tinney.

It’s a great honor to be supported by VT-NEA, the organization that works to keep Vermont schools GREAT SCHOOLS — for students and their families, as well as the teachers and staff working in our schools.

I still think fondly of my K-6 teachers, and can recite all their names, because they made my public school experience exciting, challenging, and rewarding—giving me a life-long love of learning that has helped me succeed in many ways, including as a legislator.

My school was a door into a world of choices and opportunities—not just for me, but for every child in the school. And that’s why I am so proud of this endorsement: Vermont makes no public investment greater than what we do for every Vermont child: a free public education led by teachers who educate and nurture their students every day.

I also appreciate this endorsement because VT NEA works to bring dignity and respect to the workplace—through fair labor practices and good wages and benefits. These teacher contracts serve as models to help raise employment practices not only for teachers, but for ALL workers.

WHEN YOU WORK FULL-TIME, YOU SHOULD BE RESPECTED AND BRING HOME NOT JUST A PAYCHECK, BUT ALSO A MEASURE OF SECURITY AND SENSE OF WELL BEING. That’s what every worker deserves.

I hope to return to the legislature next session and the Senate Education Committee, where I pledge to work for the best with all all the parties in our public education system: students and families, teachers and school boards, principals and superintendents, and the community at large.

I hope you will follow VT-NEA’s activist lead:
• SHARE the news of this endorsement, and
• VOTE and TURN OUT your friends to vote.

I ask for your support once again at the polls. Let’s keep moving forward on making Vermont an even better place to live for everyone.

With gratitude,

—Chris
